Finding The Purpose Of Your Life, by Jim Carrey

Sometimes, the reason we are scared to dream big is because we think our desires and ambitions are way out of reach or not “practical”. Actor Jim Carrey, in his humorous yet eye-opening address to the graduating class of 2014 at Iowa’s Maharishi University of Management, says that all decisions we make in the moment are either ruled by love, or by fear. In order to reach our true potential and be the person that we want to be, we must attempt to silence the ghosts of doubt and fear in our heads, and ASK the universe for what we want.

Between 11:38 and 14:40, Carrey says that, “You can fail at what you don’t want so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” After that phrase he delivers a great speech about “finding the purpose of your life”. Once we remove the barriers in our mind (real or imagined), doors of opportunities start opening up for us. The secret to realizing our dreams, he says, lies not in wondering how you will get there, but to make yourself believe that it is possible and start working towards it.

Watch this 26 minute long speech for inspiration and encouragement with a healthy dose of humor.
