Mindfulness At Wisdom 2.0, by Jon Kabat-Zinn

Mindfulness is a way of developing a relationship with self, intellectually and emotionally. It is also a way of holding one’s own experiences with placidness and precision. In the following video, Jon Kabat-Zinn – father of mindfulness meditation – is interviewed by Melissa Daimler, from Twitter, at the Wisdom 2.0 Conference. Kabat-Zinn explains the importance of mindfulness meditation and how it can hone your creative and aesthetic side. He talks about the general tendency of a person to revel in self proclaimed narratives, initiated by the narrative network in the midline of the brain. However, if mindfulness meditation is practiced, another lateral network is activated that draws the mind away from the repetitive cycles of inflated narratives and helps it settle into a personal space, unaffected by the environment around, where attending to an issue takes priority over the issue itself. Therefore, meditation is a self-regulation of attention and hence, it is important to be consciously aware of the present moment with a non-judgmental approach. Mindfulness meditation in corporate and business has a long-standing impact on the way people think of themselves at work, and in their personal lives.
