Traits Of Effective Leadership, by Herminia Ibarra

INSEAD Professor of Organizational Behavior, Herminia Ibarra, who was shortlisted for the Thinkers50 2013 “Leadership Award”, explains some of the traits of effective leadership in this 5 minute video.

Some of her tips on how to become an effective leader include:

• Rethink your job from operational, routine-work to something much more strategic. Invest less time solving problems and more time figuring out the type of problems you should be solving.

• Expand your network of relationships outside your organization, well beyond your existing network of contacts.

• Handle a wide range of leadership styles (from “command and control” to “collaborative”) and learn when to apply the right one depending on the context and situation.
